The image on this pin/pendant represents the winged lion of Saint Mark, on of the four symbols of the evangelists. The design is based on one of the figures on the figures on the silver-gilt reliquary chest. The shrine was made in 1063 to hold the relics of Saint Isidore, the 7th century scholar who was also Bishop of Seville.
The museum’s pewter pin/pendant is electroplated with silver and 24 karat gold to create a two toned effect.
